Be Smart About Investing

With 100 dollars in your pocket, you could buy new jeans, a pair of shoes, and a couple movie tickets. You might still have some left over, but what if you took that 100 dollars and invested it instead? In ten years, that 100 might turn into 1,000, even 10,000 dollars. Saving, planning, and smart investments can make your money grow. It might not be as much fun as spending it, but you'll be much better off in the future. This book will help readers get started on the best ways to save money, learn about the stock market, and plan their financial future.

* Reviews *

The Internet is an exciting research tool with bright graphics, color pictures, and bite-size chunks of information. With such easy access to it, it is no wonder many students prefer online resources over print. Therefore, publishers must design their texts with Internet features. Unfortunately, the books in this series do not implement enough Internet characteristics to attract young people. There are insufficient illustrations and those uninspired few are colorless. The text is also rather dry and devoid of humor and vivacity. The target audience and purpose of these books is unclear. Each volume explores an aspect of money and future security, and while they are user-friendly enough in their vocabulary and use of examples (iphones to discuss budgeting; Twitter and Facebook to examine privacy), they include a bevy of superfluous information that is developmentally inappropriate for the general teen reader (paying yearly taxes, keeping financial documents, credit unions) and they assume prior knowledge that most teens do not possess (the recommendation of writing a will or complaint letter for damaged purchases without a sample and suggesting comparison shopping without providing strategies). On the plus side, every volume includes a glossary, Internet and book sources for further reading, and quizzes at each chapter end along with an answer key to review the information taught.
